I love the book too Dave, and have read it many times. This latest movie with Daniel-Day-Lewis does not strictly follow Cooper's story, but there has been more effort in regard to period authenticity, to the point of using real Indians. Well worth watchin, and I will wager you watch it more than once. Regards.

I have the book and the DVD. Correct, the movie doesn't exactly follow the book. but enjoy it for what it is and it is a good movie.
