When I saw this on "The Big Screen" back in the day, I thought, "Uh-oh! Mel's in trouble. Jason is going to slice him up something fierce with that saber." I thought Mel's victory was improbable, even though it was compelled by the storyline, Hollywood, and good triumphing over evil.
Then a few months ago I latched on to James McLermore's Illustrated Guide to Tomahawk and Big Knife Fighting, Vol. 1 from Amazon. The author shows the method behind all the chops, cuts, blocks, and thrusts. All things considered, Mel had a much better chance than I was willing to give him.
