Belfast Bushcraft Blog: Firesteel failure

Belfast Bushcraft Blog: Firesteel failure

A REAL fire steel won't do this, but as you have found out, a ferrocium rod will!
Long live the tinderbox.

Another great thing about the tinderbox is the learning experience. What works better,or not as well. The things our ancestors new intimately.

Stay safe

That is an important point you make Bob. The fact is that if you learn primitive methods first, they will make you better at making fire, even if using matches or a ferrocium rod. The broken rod would still create sparks, & if you were using a prepared plant tinder you could still make fire easily.
