Personally Hutch, if I was making one of these I would be using a strong linen thread instead of the imitation sinew, but I guess that depends on how authentic you want it.
Good luck with it. If you get one made, let us know how the project went.

It's a beautiful piece of work, but it seems like a lot of effort for very little water.

I think you are right Gorges. It would not last long in the heat we have here at present. That is why I got the leather costrel, the large version holds quite a lot.
