In The Militia. The Cartouch box or Belly box.

I have read many accounts of militia equipment, and most of them vary in what is compulsory. Occasionally I am asked to scout for the local militia, and the captain preferes me to use a belly box and cartridges. So I made this one with the bits and pieces I had available.
A copper nail secures the outer flap.

The back.

Inner flap to help keep the paper cartridges dry in wet weather.

I managed to bore 10 holes for cartridges in this block.

Swan shot and round ball (Buck & Ball) cartridge on the right, load of swan shot on the left.
