We saw this series on PBS on American TV years and years ago, but what a huge disappointment! Too bad that PBS degenerated to going the way of a bad 'reality' show on mainstream TV. The series was far too much about choosing candidates to ensure juicy squabbling and strife, instead of focusing on the history. The participants too were not very concerned with authenticity at all, periodically throwing pouty fits about not wearing caps, going to religious service, and insisting on making 'women's lib' an issue. The whole thing was ludicrous and tedious...
Since those days we have been lucky to find several other fantastic historical series for our own collection, among them fabulous Stuart Peachey's 'Tales From the Green Valley' and Desperate Crossing, the Untold Story of the Mayflower'. These are just a couple we highly recommend!
