18TH CENTURY LIVING HISTORY, HISTORICAL TREKKING, AND LONG TERM SURVIVAL.
Ha! Great minds... I just finished writing a post about making fire kindlers and found this on your blog Keith. Maybe it's as cold and wet in Armidale as it is here in Dunedin today.
One of the best places to find dry kindling around here is in a pack rat’s nest. They can build up quite a mound of debris, 3 or more feet high and the same in diameter. It’s surprisingly water resistant. Several times I have raided one of the little rodent’s homes to get a fire going. No harm done. The rat will quickly repair its dwelling.
