Shooting and Fire Season.

It is fire season here in Australia, and the worst one we have ever had so far. Global warming is pushing the temperature up. Using patch material or inflammable wadding can easily start a bushfire. I use leather wads.

In the bottom left hand corner of this image you will see the 18th century wad punch that I use, which used to be my Father's.

  1. I realize you're shooting a smoothbore, but it looks like lead build-up could still be a problem; or does the leather scrub it out?

  3. Thanks for responding Keith. I had a .50 caliber with a bad barrel bored out to a .54 smooth-bore, so I'd been thinking about using leather. I believe you've convinced me.

  4. I well remember you telling me about that gun a long time ago Gorges. I have always thought that would be a neat gun to use. I was telling someone about your gun not too long ago.
