Adam's Gunpowder Canister. Can you identify it?

Can you identify this gunpowder canister and lock. A date would be great. I don't know if this is a military container, or a civilian container. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I wish I could help. I would like to see a photo of the key for the lock. That might help date it.

    "Actually, there is no key to the lock! The way it works is that you move the "bar" in the middle to open it."
