I found a picture of what appears to be a small tinderbox, flint & steel kit on the internet.
I was intrigued by its design but couldn't find any trustworthy information about it. I was wondering if you had any information on its legitimacy or history.
Hello Blake. I have seen this same image before, but never any useful info attached to it. I have seen two similar ones, one dated 19th century, the other a modern one. probably copied from this one.
My guess would be first half of the 19th century, & probably made for lighting a pipe. Made small to be carried in a city person's pocket. Probably contained charred cloth. It is not large enough to be used to prepare or contain plant tinders, so definately I would say for a town dweller. Regards, Keith. PS. If I find anything more, I will post on it.
