A Leather Covered Bottle from Kari.
Another great looking bottle, images by Kari. Going by the shape of the mouth of the bottle, I would date this mid to late 19th century, so say 1840 to maybe 1880.
There's black paint on the handle, and what appears to be pre-planned spots for attachment to the bottle. However, the shape of the loop also reminds me of a trigger-guard or scissors or snip handles.
I am thinking that the handle was made for that purpose, rather like handles used to be made for early suitcases with leather straps for attachment. But I have never seen one like this before. Keith.
Nice, Keith! Is it contemporary with the bottle or a later re-use?
ReplyDeleteI can't say with any assurity on this one. I would tend to think later reuse, but I am no expert. You note the iron handle!
