A Nice Legging Knife Made By One Of Our Forum Members.

This image is COPYRIGHT Vieuxbois
Vieuxbois lives in Quebec & made this lovely legging knife from an old cleaver blade. This is my kind of knife, I love it.

  1. Cleaver? It should be sturdy then!

  2. Vieuxbois tells me it was a thin bladed cleaver, but I think you are right regardless Gorges.

  3. Cleavers are not always thick and heavy. This blade is 0,60 inches thick (16 milimeters).

  4. Now that really is an excellent design! I like the brass ferrule. I think there´s no harm done if it´s a bit thicker in the spine, for it has a somewhat wide blade. Just the bevel could be set a bit higher... Great handle, too, maple, is it?

  5. You're right Fimbulmyrk, I need to get the edge thinner. My grinder is dead and the tempered steel was pretty hard to work by hand.

  6. @vieuxbois: I had good results with a Japanese water stone. Old cleavers make great material, I have one still lying around, myself... maybe I´ll do an interpretation if you permit?
    @LeLoup: Thanks! Tanned, is it?

  7. Fimbulmyrk. Boiled linseed oil + fire&smoke from matches seals the wood and give this color.
