I am not sure John. I would imagine that providing the seas were calm you could go anywhere. These are usually used for going round the coast close to land, then travelling up a river to hunt, forage & fish. I did note though that there were some American Indians with Australian Aboriginal DNA. I got swamped in a sudden storm on the Great Lakes in winter one time & had to swim my boat to shore. But it was a simple matter to empty the boat & travel on after the storm had passed the next day.
