Patterning A Smoothbore Flintlock.

This video taken from: http://frenchandindianblog.blogspot.com/2010/03/patterning-for-turkey-season.html

The only thing I will say about this video is DO NOT put your hand over the ramrod as seen here, it is an unsafe practice. If your ramrod is not long enough to grasp without putting your hand on top, then get a longer ramrod. In the image below you will see a little .32 cal Mountain Rifle with the ramrod sticking out beyond the barrel. Not all ramrods will do this, but this one to be long enough does extend beyond the muzzle.

  1. Apart from motorcycle racing, I used to go off on shikars with another group of friends either on motorcycles or in a jeep and have shot partridge with a flint lock gun. The kick back the first time was totally unexpected as I was used to modern shot guns and I still remember that agonizing experience.

  2. Ramana, I would say that the muzzle-loading gun you used had too much gunpowder in it! The muzzle-loading gun with the correct amount of powder should not kick as much as a modern breechloader. The black powder guns give more of a push than a kick.
I hope your first experience did not put you off.
