It has a small head with a circlelike hole to accommodate a handle and it has markings on it. The marking seems to be a small square with 3 dots in the square and it is located in the center of the axe head.

Any ideas as to what it could possibly be and how old would it be and any history behind it.

Much appreciated.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07117569694132709535noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6093666650139166859.post-7258151048600601822011-03-19T14:43:15.043-07:002011-03-19T14:43:15.043-07:00Well your old helve has lasted well Hutch.Well your old helve has lasted well Hutch.Keithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12562001301604097606noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6093666650139166859.post-21186602909846584222011-03-19T07:06:55.666-07:002011-03-19T07:06:55.666-07:00You've forced me to now get off my butt and pr...You've forced me to now get off my butt and produce another helve for my hatchet that broke two weeks ago. It was due to break; only the Lord knows how old the handle was, my guess is that it's at least 30 years old.Hutchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01910646382682288133noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6093666650139166859.post-89824363332099063872011-03-18T17:11:09.181-07:002011-03-18T17:11:09.181-07:00Hi John. Then I would prop the helve up where it would get some warmth to help it soak in & later rub some more on.
Now we are in the other house I have no open fire to use, so I have some poly pipe with lindseed oil in it and simply lower the helve into the oil to let it soak as long as I can.Keithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12562001301604097606noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6093666650139166859.post-38546563288158861032011-03-18T06:38:27.513-07:002011-03-18T06:38:27.513-07:00What do you finish the wood with or do you just le...What do you finish the wood with or do you just leave it raw?John B.
